Waldhaus Description
Waldhaus Cabin is a lovely, two bedroom cabin located on the western side of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon near the town of Blackwell. It has a knotty pine interior, is fully carpeted and has a fully equipped kitchen and modern bathroom. It is located in a quiet, wooded setting that provides both privacy and close proximity to Pine Creek. It is within walking distance of the 40 mile bike trail that runs through the canyon gorge.
Waldhaus means "forest home" in German. It was named after a similar cabin located in the Black Forest near the Rhine River. The Waldhaus is surrounded by mountainous state forest lands. It was built in 1991. The interior is carpeted and many of the walls and ceilings are constructed of local knotty pine wood. There are picture windows in the front and back of the cabin, which facilitate wildlife viewing. Deer are frequent visitors to the salt lick out back and a variety of other wildlife pass through the property, especially after dark. The cabin has front and rear flood lights to facilitate wildlife viewing from the comfort of the cabin.
The cabin sleeps 4-6 people. There is a queen-sized bed in one bedroom and two twin beds in the other. It also has a queen-sized sofa bed. The kitchen includes a stove, refrigerator, microwave oven, and cooking and eating utensils. The bathroom has a nice vanity area and a shower. The cabin has electric heat and is well insulated. It also has a phone that can be used for local or credit card calls.
There is a large, covered back porch with a picnic table on it. The stone fireplace out back can be used for cookouts. From the rear of the lot, you can see down to Pine Creek.
